The estate

Atlas Peak.
Organic.
Above 1,000 feet.

Acumen is an Atlas Peak mountain estate founded in 2012. The PEAK line is the estate bottling. Attelas and Edcora sit above 1,000 feet on volcanic ground, organic certified.

Attelas was Dr. Krupp's Home Vineyard, planted three years before Stagecoach. Northwest exposure, cool mountain nights. This Cabernet Franc is 100 percent of that estate fruit.

Six-bottle case. Typical retail $110. Double 95 on this vintage.

2022 in the glass

Blackberry.
Red pepper.
Then cocoa.

Give it a minute and several swirls. It is shy out of the bottle, then blackberry, black raspberry, red pepper, thyme. Full-bodied, round tannins, real structure. The Tasting Panel called it a textural dream: melting dark chocolate, creamy violets, plum pudding, sage, tobacco, cedar. Owen Bargreen: red bell pepper, creosote, garrigue, dark currants, drink 2025 to 2040.

Menu and service

Built for a serious table.

  • Pan-seared duck breast with cherry glaze
  • Herb lamb with roasted garlic
  • Aged gouda and a hard cheese that can keep up

Serve near 62 F in a Bordeaux glass. A 30 to 45 minute decant. The red pepper and cocoa catch up with the blackberry.
